Can't sing along to these songs

No lyrics are needed for the tunes included in this week's Flashback Friday.  We'll slide into the 60's for this crop of cool instrumentals.  First up is Booker T. and the M.G.s and their iconic Green Onions.  I couldn't nail down where the song's title came from as the given reasons vacillated between it was such a cool song on one end and it was hated so much on the other, with one story in between saying it was named after a cat!  Oh well, groovin' tune with a mysterious title.

The next number was written as a theme song for the play"A Taste of Honey" and was originally an instrumental but lyrics were added later.  This version is the uber-popular version that won 3 Grammys for Herb Albert in 1966 and is also the version I heard over and over and over again as a kid as my Dad cranked out his favorite tunes on his huge console record player.

Last is the always fun "Yakety Sax" performed by Boots Randolph and is another song that's deeply ingrained in my brain passages, both from my Dad's (once again!) repetitive revolves on the record player and from watching Benny Hill on the tube as this was his theme song.

This cluster of musical oldies proves that you don't always need lyrics to write a catchy and enduring song!
