Adventures with Paracord

I've done quite a bit of research for this Tips, Tricks and Treats Tuesday so I'm hoping y'all really get some use from today's tips.  So let's just jump right in, shall we?

I don't know how I find the things I do...I guess I spend too much time online (ask my hubby) but I love to search and learn, which brings me to paracord.  I had seen paracord bracelets in stores and pondered upon them so here we are!  First off, paracord is short for parachute cord; don't laugh that I didn't know that. However I know now so there ya go.  This is actually pretty cool stuff. It's a very strong cord and has middle cording as well which is what makes it extra strong and useful in emergencies.  The first video here is a tutorial on how to make one yourself and it's actually not too difficult. I

The easy way to do it :)
also found out you can weave survival-type items into the bracelet as you're  making it.  For example in another video I watched, the man wrapped up some small fish hooks in foil along with some small sinkers (emphasis on small) for emergency fishing.  The small fibers inside the outer shell of the cord can be used as fishing line and the foil can be used as attractant to lure those fish to your hook. Pretty cool!  You can get paracord on Amazon (I love Amazon) as well as the buckles.  I found some cool buckles that have a fire starter and whistle built right in!  It should cost about $16 to make two homemade bracelets with the survival buckle (and hey, it you're going to make it for emergencies add every gadget you can), not including any sneaky extras you want to sneak into the weave.  That being said at length, you can buy one pre-made with the nifty aforementioned buckle PLUS a bottle opener for $5.99 each.  I suppose that'd be the way to go if you don't want to add the hidden extras or you really want to craft one of these which actually seems kinda fun if you like crafty things like I do.  Check out the links below for info on buckles, paracords and the cheater bracelet, respectively.

So you may be wondering, as I did, what you can do with this wonderful paracord.  The video to the left has a bunch of ideas, some are okay, some are just funners but a bunch seem quite useful.  So have fun with that.

And one more paracord idea.  This is originally what got me started on the whole paracord topic and it appears to be yet another useful use (haha, did that on purpose) for the 'ol parachute cord.

So before you head out on an adventure, make sure to have your paracord ready and available...I know I will :)
