Artsy Eggsy

Pretty Polish Easter Eggs

Since it's getting ever closer to Easter, I thought it'd be fun to delve into the topic of Easter Eggs on this Mesmerizing Medium Monday.

The gorgeous Polish Pisanki in the pic to the left are an elaborate work of art.  It's quite an involved process using a "wax flowing/wax melting" technique, applying beeswax into the desired design then dipping the egg into colored dye and repeating this, layer upon layer, until the intricate painted shell is complete.  I have never

tried this, but since I have a Polish  Heritage and being a crafty-type person, I would love to try my hand at making one of these beauties!  The vid to the right is something to try if you have the calling like me!

Faberge' Egg from the Kremlin Collection

Even though I relish artistic endeavors I'm sure I'd have some major problems attempting fabricating a facsimile of a Faberge' Egg. This breathtaking collection first started in 1885 when Tsar Alexander III commissioned Peter Carl Faberge' to artistically prepare an ornate egg as a gift for his wife Maria in honor of their anniversary which happened to fall on Easter that year. The rest is Egg History as it became a wonderous annual tradition.

Oooo, Enchanted Eggs!

Wow, these eggs instantly take me back to my childhood.  Just looking at this pic stirs an excitement and child-like curiosity in me, wondering what enchanted image lurks down the egg hole.  I couldn't find out where the Panoramic Egg originated.  One theory has it that it came about as a copy of the aforementioned Faberge' Egg, though some say it was the other way around.  It's an interesting twist on the "Chicken or the Egg" and which came first dilemma.  Well, I don't mind not knowing because I'm just pleased that we have Enchanted Eggs, plus all the other exquisite eggs mentioned above to appease our artistic appetites and thankful for the humble chicken that inspired the controversy and, of course, the eggs they supply for all the fun!
