Dogumentary
As I was thinking of what I was going to chat about today, I got to thinking about one of my fav-o-rite creatures in this whole, ginormous world and that would be dogs. Seeing as I am going to make yet another pronouncement and dub Wednesdays as W/E Wednesdays which leaves me a day to discuss anything that poops (yes, I meant that) into my brain-bowl, I thought the pawsy set would be fun and, of course, a-dooooor-able to concentrate on. I suppose I'll highlight my own bundle of fuzzy-love, my Chowbador (part Chow Chow and part Black Lab) Vader. I can still remember when he was first brought to my attention on
Petfinder.com which is a pretty handy way to search for that special dog just for you. The funny thing is that I told myself I wanted a short haired (easier upkeep) girl (to alleviate Springtime problems) but I zeroed in on this fuzz-bomb boy. His profile personality seemed appealing to me, especially the fact that it was stated that he enjoyed being around people but he was content on his own. We had just come off the cusp of losing our

Dobie Snickers (ooo, lots to tell about her, but maybe another day) who was a loving thing but had some "special" traits, one of them being separation anxiety which was a hard row to hoe at times. So when I read that this boy could be happy on his own that had instant appeal to me. My youngin' and I went to check him out at the Michigan Humane Society and right off knew he was the one for us! He has his annoying traits such as being a pain to take on a walk at times (at his worst we called him "Clown Dog" since he, when he spotted another dog, would jump on his hind legs and get goofy), but don't we all have something we need to work on. On his super-good side, he is very sensitive to your feelings and wants everyone to be happy. We call him our "anger alarm" and he makes it pretty difficult for the hubster and me to stay mad at each other, although we sure give it a go sometimes! He's also the best, out of all the dogs I've had through the years, at understanding the English language...a pretty smart cookie, and he especially knows that word, too. From this last photo, you can notice one of the reasons why

we called him Vader. Can you see that "black" tongue flopping out? When he was younger (we got him when he was about 10 months old) he was almost all black, so the whole fam had a pow-wow and came up with one of the most black subjects we could think of and that was, of course, Darth Vader. Our Vader is much nicer, though. However he is a bit overpowering around my daughter and SIL's dog, but I suppose a bit of that comes with the name.
He's getting to be an old man-sy now, 9 years old, and getting a sprinkling of white in the beard area, but I've had comments from people that tell me they thought he was a puppy when they question his age. Thank God he's still is a pretty bouncy and all-around happy doggy and, hey, isn't that a good example for us "civilized" beings to emulate? Arf arf!
