Hello Dali
Just wow... |
For today's Mesmerizing Medium Monday I was trying to decide what type of artistic topic to cover and, seeing as I've been posting a lot of music, decided to go the odd artist route. I'm a type that can appreciate many forms of creative expression, but I do have a hankering for Surrealism. Perhaps my bend in that direction came from reading a ton of Dr. Seuss books when I was young...LOVED them and I still consider Theodor Geisel one of my most admired authors. However my tastes became acquired is of no matter, I suppose, because they are what they are now and they sure go down easy and fill me up inside! Today my artist of choice is going to be Salvador Dali, whose works and life are awesomely interesting. You would not be at a loss for finding images of and by him, just
fascinating to me and I seem to always find out something new about him as I have now. I have seen this photo of him walking an anteater and I thought that was one of THE coolest things. Some blurbs I read reported that the anteater was his pet but today I have found out otherwise. He was fascinated with them and was just talking one out for a casual walk (I didn't find out where he was able to come up with the anteater...oh well, that's Dali). Apparently he was obsessed with anteaters as he had a kind of phobia about ants as he witnessed, when he was much younger, a group of ants devouring his pet bat. Dali used tons of symbolism in his works and ants were one of his constant themes.

One of Dali's most recognized works would have to be the classic "melting clocks" which is one of his paintings that first got me interested in him and why you are reading this! Funny how circumstances work, eh?
He was a man of many diverse facets as you can observe and I've only given you a tiny piece of the Dali puzzle. As an encore, I will leave you to enjoy Dali's beautifully spiritual piece, "Sacrament of the Last Supper". Peace be with you :)
