Living in the Past
Theodore Roosevelt, our most awesome President |
I'm not what some would call a history buff, but as I've gotten older I've acquired a taste for reading about information from our past. I really didn't care all that much when I was younger but now have gleaned that we actually CAN learn from the past. Not that I think we should yearn for things from the "Good 'ol days" to the point where we attempt to stay there and not enjoy our life in this moment. Remember, today will be the future's "Good 'ol days"! With that being clear as crystal, I'll continue on with my
point for today which is reaching back into history and absorbing enough of it to apply it to our life in the now. Now Theodore Roosevelt, well, it's hard to put this man into words. I have read hundreds (I know past a thousand anyway) of pages about our 26th President. This man did just about everything and with huge obstacles in his way at times. He was born with asthma but climbed mountains; he had both a Medal of Honor and a Nobel Peace Prize; he was shot moments before he was to give a 50 page speech but went through with it before he went to the hospital. Okay, that's just a teeny-tiny sample of T.R. (he disliked being call Teddy, by the way) and his action-packed life. I highly, HIGHLY encourage you to read up on him at least to some degree. Among the gazillion things I found out and am trying to apply to my life as I have investigated the past is the fact that certain fundamental things realllllly haven't changed all that much. The more I read history, even going way back to Bible times, the more I see that people and the way they relate to each other are basically still the same. There have always been crappy-acting people but always those of good nature to lift up those around them, in their own place in time. In fact, speaking of the Bible, in Ecclesiastes 1:9 it says, "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." To get to the nitty-gritty here, let's make today's "Good 'ol day" really be one! Be that uplifting person and appreciate something right now that you'll probably look back on years from now and say, "Wow, I remember when...(fill in the blank). That way you'll have a smile not only then, but NOW when it's actually more sweet.

Ya, and he rode a moose, too |
I hope you're smiling now since this pic of T.R. always makes me grin and marvel. I'm sure in the future I'll delve into more things of the past. It's fun to go there and live a little, but there's no place like home right now!
Jethro Tull's Living in the Past...just don't stay too long :)
