Take a Close Look

What am I? |
I was out a few days ago and spotted something I thought would look cool, literally and figuratively, in a pic. Oh, ta da, it's Thoughtful/Thankful Thursday, so maybe I'll make you think a bit and hopefully to be thankful, too. So, to continue with my chilly endeavor, I grabbed my camera and ventured outside to grab a few images. As I was composing my shot, I was thinking about how perspective plays a huge roll in how we interpret information and draw conclusions. It's hard to make a judgement based on one tiny piece of information. For instance, can you tell what this picture is of? You can probably make a good guess...I didn't get too
up close. However, even if you can generally make a guess, it's still a guess and you really don't know the whole story. Here's the next pic in the

series. You should be able to tell a bit more, maybe even tell what variety of what it is. But you still might not be sure and you don't know how large this particular item is. I love taking close-up shots but usually it's more clear what the object is. This photo session was fun, though, as it adds a bit of mystery to the images! Again, perspective is a interesting phenomenon in that we have to sometimes focus in to understand something yet we really need to put on the wide angle lens to truly get the whole story. Odd it is, yes (said with a Yoda accent). Okay so next up in my montage.......

Do you know it now? |
Well, if you haven't guessed it by now, it's a frozen hydrangea! You might feel sorry for this poor little critter but, although this flower is covered with ice, the plant's roots are safe underground and will be ready to bloom again in a few months. It's hard to believe isn't it? Something so lifeless looking will spring back and grow again. I could have said "and grow beautiful again", but I didn't on purpose because I think there's a certain beauty about this flower glazed in it's icy coating. I believe there's beauty in many different situations if you just focus on it. Sometimes that means focusing in like on this hydrangea or getting the "big picture"...perspective's a crazy thing. Now, you may have guessed from the beginning that the first photo was of some sort of plant and maybe that it was a hydrangea but you could not know more of this flower's story until.....now.

This little petal-baby is the one laying in the ground in the fore-front of the photo. It has a couple "siblings" that you were not even aware of from the first 3 pics. However, I could have focused out even further to show where this bush it at (in my front yard garden). I suppose the point is that we really need to see all the different perspectives of something before we can really understand it. Also, and this is something that I didn't plan on when I started writing this, that we can discover beauty in something if we look closely enough. And that, my friends, goes with people, too. Focus in and focus out and vary that compelling perspective. You just might find a multitude of beauty in this world we live in :)
