How do you do your hair-do?
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |
As you have probably guessed, this Flashback Friday will look in the way-back mirror at those swingin' hairstyles of the 1960's.
To the left is, to me, the quintessential women's hairstyle of that time period, The Beehive. This buzzing style was created by Margaret Vinci Heldt of Chicago after she was asked by Modern Beauty Salon magazine to design a hairstyle that would reflect the coming decade and "poof", it was so. What she anticipated the decade would bring, I'm not quite sure but perhaps she foresaw this...
Inspiration for the Bee-do? |
The next tress trend is one that I so dearly wished I could do
The Mary T.M. Flip |
to my, long, thick hair was The Flip. I used to envy girls that had straight hair and could manipulate their head-strands into the slick Flip. My hair was long, thick and wavy so The Flip was pretty much an unreachable dream. I wanted to straighten my curly locks but my Mom, oh so wisely, told me I'd appreciate the curls one day and, dang, Mom was right again!
Other famous ladies that donned this do were Elizabeth Montgomery a.k.a "Samantha" from "Bewitched", Marlo Thomas from "That Girl" and a young Farrah Fawcett before she sported her famous "Farrah Fawcett Hair" of the 70's.
The Boys and their Mop Tops |
A review of 1960's heads would not be complete without the most iconic of them all, the Beatles' "Mop Top". The Beatles, in their early days, spent much of their time in Germany and playing in many of the shady venues there. They were befriended by Astrid Kirchherr and Jürgen Vollmer who both had "cutting hands" in grooming The Boys into their new "Mod" look. Of course, George didn't call his hair either "Mod" or "Mop Top", just "Arthur".
The 1960's sure had their hair-share of crazy, cute and fashionable styles...and no, the above was not a typo :)
