Thank God I'm a Country Music Girl
This may come as a shock to those who know me well, and frankly it is to me too, but I've been slowly becoming "County-fried" in my music tastes. So seeing as it's Mesmerizing Medium Monday that's the genre I'll concentrate on. The video to the left should really get you in the mood for some warm weather and it makes me hanker for a pontoon boat! I'm getting more attached to this group, "Little Big Town" which, again, surprises me. This is no knock on the music makers as they are great or else I wouldn't be listening to them. It's just the whole Country category that I'm befuddled with. I used to hear that "twang" and automatically discounted that "hick" music. However, we've been spending a lot of
time in Northern Michigan and that area is more backwoods thus country music prevails there. Trying to tune into a radio signal in that region will result in a plethora of country music
stations. That was the start, I speculate. I also found that it was relaxing to listen to as I went to sleep at night...subliminal conditioning? Also, this type of music just seems to "fit" in the open spaces and a more simple, homey living style.
The video to the above right clinched the country- music-appreciation deal for me, and now "Josh Turner's" song "Lay Low" is fondly known as "The Cabin Song" to me and my Lovey.
As I search deep, though, I'm discovering that I loved country music all along and that I was actually being a sort of music snob by automatically labeling it as "Not for Me". For years I considered myself a Classic Rock die-hard and I still love that style. Upon analyzing the rock music that I was more attracted to lead me to realize most had Country Roots to them. From the Beatles (and yes, they were influenced by Rockabilly artists such as Buddy Holly) to Jack White and many, many in between, that country feeling runs deep.
I just looked up Patsy Cline (above left) and I love her voice and never realized that some of the songs that I heard in passing and enjoyed were sung by her. Like I've said a million times before, you can learn something new everyday if you just scrape around to find it!
When the Hubster and I were dating he was into country music and we actually had a few "Our Songs" that were in that musical flavor. I have fond memories of seeing Willie Nelson at the Michigan State Fair wayyyyyyyy back then. The video below is of a song that still makes me mushy inside and this would be the number 1 "Our Song" from our early courtin' days and, as I listen to it now, applies picture-perfect to us after 30-plus years together.
So yes, I submit and admit that I'm a Country Music Fan. Take me home country road!
