Just notes, please
Hey gang, it's once again Flashback Friday and I've rounded up some K-ray-zee tunes to wake up the old eardrums. For you kiddies out there, have a listen and you might learn something good!
Today I'm choosing all classic instrumentals which I find very encompassing because these songs clearly pass the language border and cavort with your musical soul. I hope you enjoy this style because I plan on dishing these tasty morsels to you on future Fridays hither and tither. But now, on with today's features...
will. This selection is a drummer's dream and is, of course,"Wipeout" by the Ventures. Oh, how many times did I hear this song in my high school pep band? Tons, but it was cool every time.
In the #2 spot is a wordless wonder that might not be quite as popular but it hits me heavy, partly because it reminds me of my Dad. "Sleepwalk" by Santo and Johnny is intriguing in that there are only two instruments yet, to me, it's emotionally powerful. Slide work always seem to get to me!
In the last but not least position is a sassy piece of work, "Raunchy" by Bill Justis (co-written by Sid Manker). This number is extra interesting since, besides the fact that it's a racy little tune, it was what got 14 year old George Harrison into the Quarreymen which soon morphed into the iconic Beatles. Good stuff!
And just for an extra tidbit and because I love, love, love The Boys, below is clip of George, Paulie and Ringo playing George's audition number. Enjoy because I know I am :)
