The Great How-deeny

It's Tips, Tricks and Treats Tuesday and I thought I'd make it a Trick day at it's most literal sense and look up some kind of illusions you could fascinate and astound your family, friends and whomever you fancy with.  I personally tested the Jumping Rubber Band Trick and I could

do it pretty much on my first try.  Point is if I can do this I'm pretty sure most anyone can because I'm not the most analytically adept person and these rubber band tricks require a bit of that skill.  As I just stated, this one is pretty simple so no worries.  However, the next trick directly below gave me some

trouble...dang spatial relations!  My suggestion is to make sure to pay particular attention from minute 2:05 to 2:08.  I was having trouble making my index finger that was integral to the trickery appear above the horizontal rubber bands at the end...I tried and tried but I kept ending up at the bottom of the bands and that ruined the whole illusion.  I finally (okay, those of you that are quick to learn in this fashion may laugh but at least I have a problem and I didn't quit until I could do it, so there!) figured out that you have to do a little swinging up-around motion with all the loops until your your pointer finger is above that horizontal loop.  Geez, that's hard to explain!  If you can get it with out my trying-to-be-helpful advice, well you get a gold star, show-off :)  But, if you're a bit slow like me then keep trying and I'm sure you'll do it.  If not, get a show-off to help you :)

Now for the last rubber band trick.  I was so close to giving up on this one (remember, I'm not too quick on the twisting-turning in space stuff) but with persistence and much frustration I can pretty much do this.  I need a lot of work on the illusionary  part but I at least figured out the mechanics of it.  I was having mucho problems around minute 1:46 to minute 1;50 but I got it to work a bit different than what the illusionist did.  For those smarties who have it down skip a few sentences but for those who need help...well here it goes. Follow the directions up to minute 1:45ish, then with one thumb go through the top loop and hook your thumb on band 3 and pull it through to form a kind of triangle. Now with both middle fingers, go under then up through the triangle and let your thumb unhook from the triangle.  Now all you have to do is pull taunt and continue on with the video directions.

I hope that helped someone out there to tackle some new skills so you can literally have some new tricks up your sleeve to show off  to the masses.  Tell them The Great How-deeny sent you :)
