Bubble Street Gallery
"A Chance to Dream" |
This Mesmerizing Medium Monday will feature the fanciful art of Daniel Merriam. I can't remember exactly where I first viewed his fabulous work, but I would bet it was on Pinterest.
I love, love, love surrealist art and that's the branch Mr. Merriam falls into. His website is called "Bubble Street" and I'm assuming he formulated the title from his frequent use of bubbles in his works. From my casual perusal of his paintings I also noticed other common themes are fish, butterflies and houses. The latter is present in all my picks today, I suppose, because home is so very important to me. In this first example I can fancy myself on board
this magical house boat, sailing calmly along.
Daniel studied mechanical and architectural design and it really shines in his art. This piece is intriguing to me for quite a few reasons including the house (of course!) and the fact that it's on an elephants back. Also, the moon hovering overhead, which is actually another common detail in his works, fascinates me as do all moon-infused art.
There were so many of his pieces I admired it was hard to choose which ones to include in this post. His work has a complex simplicity to it, if that makes senses to you. Even if it doesn't it does to me! I suppose what I'm trying to convey is that he paints a very busy, bustling scene with many details (that's the complex part), yet it's easy on the eyes and to figure out what's going on (that's the simple part).
This one is wonderful and charming. I relish the thought of transporting into this world and chilling on the front porch and savoring the view.
I hope you enjoyed this mini-tour of Daniel Merriam's works of art and decide to check out more of his surreal ideas...just do the Google-thing :)
