Memorial Day 2015

Vintage 1947 Memorial Day

In honor of Memorial Day I decided to dedicate Mesmerizing Medium Monday to the holiday.

First up is a painting by J.C. Leyendecker for the May 25, 1947 issue of The American Weekly.  I appreciate how this scene invokes a feeling of somber affection.

The next memorial medium will be

Thoughtful

a poem by Roger J. Robicheau. It's short but to the point and reminds us to appreciate those in the Military.

So true...

This cartoon proves that cartoons don't always have to be humorous and, in fact, can cause us a melancholy feeling.

The video tribute is another visual and audio reminder to help us contemplate on what Memorial Day is really all about.  We can still have fun celebrating the long weekend but keep in mind the sacrefice of those that enable us to be free to celebrate.

Happy Memorial Day everyone :)
